Suggest Treatment For HIV

Hi, am Cyprian. I work in a HIV Comprehensive care centre. A client was wrongly given EFV together with an FDC of D4T, NVP and 3TC. She has come for a stock refill. I though of assuming and give the FDC drug alone as is required. Is this right? what else can I do?

Yes Cyprian you are perfectly right. 2 NNRTI i.e nevirapine and efavirenz are never prescribed together you should bring this error in notice of your prescribing physician immediately. Also D4T is a less preferred drug in fact not recommended by any HIV clinical guidelines currently secondary to its side effects so your Physician may think about changing this to some other NRTI.
