i am a patient of manic depression OCD.,treating it for the last 12 years. and see it it a lifelong affair. Is there any chance to come out of it completely.I am presently taking clonazepam .5mg & Daxid 100mg.presently I feel headache restlessness sometimes. I am a unemployed person.but I donot want to work, sitting idle,no care for future as i am 31 years old unmarried.i find myself not suitable for any job when i think about the work profile even simple work

I want to work for living but I have no courage to work and face any interview.

Hello thanks for asking from Health Care Magic

I have read your question and I can understand your problem. OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder is a type of anxiety disorder. In about 40-50% of individuals of OCD depressive symptoms are also found. The depressive symptoms and OCD symptoms collectively result in loss of confidence, poor social and occupational functioning, loss of work etc symptoms. You are taking Sertraline 100 mg and Clonazepam 0.5 mg per day.

OCD has waxing and waning course or in simple language it shows relapses and remissions. It is difficult to treat but individuals who take proper treatment can work and function normally.

Treatment is done by combination of Medicines and Behavioural methods. Medicines mainly SSRIs are used in high doses in OCD. For symptomatic control medicines like benzodiazepines are used. If we consider your medicines as per my opinion dose of sertraline should be increased. Overall other SSRIs like Fluoxetine, Fluvoxamine are more commonly used in OCD. Discuss with your psychiatrist for any dose adjustments or any change in prescription.

Behavioural management in terms of Exposure and Response prevention and Systematic Desensitisation are very efficacious in OCD.

Consult your psychiatrist for treatment. It is difficult to treat but OCD is not a untreatable illness.

Thanks
