I am a 59 yr old female and have developed darker blotchy skin on my neck. I avoid sun now but over the years have had several sunburns to my face and shoulders. I am Type 2 diabetic, taking glucophage. I have had a complete hysterectomy and am on 2 different HRT meds. What has caused the blotchiness and how can I prevent further problems and treat what I already have?
Darker blotchiness on your neck may be most probably acanthosis nigricans. In many patients having diabetes, this type of dermatosis occurs. The skin of neck become pigmented, thick and wrinkled. There may be some other causes also. As you have diabetes, it may be DM induced acanthosis nigricans.
Have perfect control of blood sugar. You may consult dermatologist for firm diagnosis. If I were your doctor, I would have reccomonded vitamin A analogue gel..tretinoin gel of low strenght 0.012% to apply on affected area along with kojic acid containing gel. And vitamin E and vitamin C tablets may be taken to improve the disease.
I hope this would be helpful in managing your disease.
Thanks.
