hello There!
thank you for asking.
i want you to know that fcet syndrome is a challenge for a diagnostician and is often confused with Discogenic pain. And i want to tell you that physical therapy is the mainstay here you need. Superficial heat. cryotherapies and manipulation therapies etc under the expertise of good physio therapist will be necessary.

here is the list of medication you can select from.

1-Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs
a-Ibuprofen (Ibuprin, Motrin, Advil)

2-Muscle Relaxants
a-Cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril)

3-Opioid Analgesics
a-Oxycodone (OxyContin, OxyIR, Roxicodone)

4-Antidepressants
a-Amitriptyline (Elavil)

5-Antidepressant, Selective Serotonin/norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitor (ssnri)
a-Duloxetine (Cymbalta)

You need a proper posture, activity modification, and avoidance of strenous excercises.Positions that cause pain should be avoided. Avoid longer bed rests.

And yes your doctor is right. If the above mentioned treatments are not helping then Steroids injection are necessary.

Stay in touch with your doc and do as i told you to.

Good luck
