Suffer From Irregular Heavy Menstruation. Have PCOS. Concerned
Hi, I am 26 years old with two children, youngest being nine months old. I had the implant in september and have had one period two months ago. (Being normal). My cycle is 42 days and had a miss carry in between my children. They diognosed me with POS, I am now having a period lasting ten days. When I started it felt like I wet myself but checked and realised it weed blood. I just assumed it must have been the start of my period but 10 days later its now heavy black discharge. Do I have anything to worry about?
Your history suggests that you are having long menstrual cycles and long duration of menstrual cycles. In this condition, an endometrial biopsy/ curetting needs to be done. This test will identify if there is any abnormality in the endometrium (lining of uterus). These symptoms are not characteristic of PCOS. PCOS is poly-cystic ovarian syndrome is characterized by multiple follicles in the ovary none of which matures up in the menstrual cycle. This abnormality of menstrual cycle and absence of ovulation can cause menstrual irregularities and abnormalities. There are a couple of other investigations which need to be done to confirm or rule out PCOS. So, consult your gynecologist for clinical examination, investigations and appropriate management.
