Sudden Loss Of Strength While Walking. Reason?

My father was taking a walk. As he was returning home a gust of wind hit him and he told me that he lost a complete loss of strength on his left leg plus his right leg couldn t support his body do he fell backwards slowly onto his backpack. This kind lady that was walking by helped him home. When I got home he was on the couch and told me the while story. What could have caused this?
