What Does The Bulging Disc Which Is Impinging The Sciatic Nerve Suggest From MRI?

I am a 49yr old female recently been diagnosed (via MRI) with a bulging disc, which is impinging the sciatic nerve. I am 5 8 /175lbs. My internist recommended on 9/6 that I do nothing that would stress my back, until I am able to see a neurosurgeon. I am scheduled to see my daughter married this weekend, which involves a flight from Dallas to St. Louis, but forgot to mention this to my doc. I left several message with my doctor today, but have not heard back. With a flight tomorrow night, I am seeking information about whether flying would be counter-indicated.

Hello,

A short flight would not be a counterindication to your clinical situation. A prolonged trip in sitting position could worsen your situation. Thus, I think that it is OK for you to take this flight.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
