Smelly Stools. Why Is Child Gassier? Why Discomfort?
Hiya my little boy is 7 months and has had loose smelly stools for about 3 weeks he s just overcome a cold but stools are the same.. Could it be linked to the cold he s just had or something else.. He seems to be gassier and i also think he may he teething as he seems fussy and irritable and screams at random times even wen laughing like hes in some discomfort..he s weaned and breast fed and seems to want more milk also..
Dear Sameskdale, hello
You have not mentioned whether any antibiotcs were prescribed for the cold infection because antibiotics usually disturb the normal flora of the intestine, which consists of colony of beneficial bacteria. You should give Probiotics after consulting your Paeditrician.
Small children are not able to spit off the sputum during cold and cough and swallow it. This can result in change in the composition of the stools.
It is advisable that have his stool examined to know if any bacterial / protozoal / infection is present.
Thanks.
