Smashed Finger, Dried Blood, Faint Smell. Recommendations?

Hi! I smashed my finger a couple months ago. I went to the doctor three times shortly after the injury to get it drained but it never fully drained. Now I have a lot of dried blood still under my nail that is starting to separate to fall off. However, I noticed a faint smell this week and wondered if I need to be concerned??

Hi and thank you so much for this query.

It would take months for the blood clot under the finger to give way. It will take as long as the nail needs to grow a full length before this can give way. The best thing to do is to monitor and stay relaxed being confident that it will soon get over and it is not everlasting. If I were your doctor, I would no have ever even attempted draining because it will not be effective and it is a wastage of resource.

If you have a new pain, then please consult your doctor. if there is no pain or swelling, I will suggest you stay calm and observe before seeking any medical attention.

I wish you well and hope we addressed your query fully. Feel free to request for some more information and thank you for using our services.
