Small Child, Thread Worm In Stools. Taking Ovex Medication. Continue Medication?

We have recently found out that our 6 year old has thread worm . We bought Ovex and he took this on Monday but is still riddled with them. He has gone to the toilet today and it contained at least 20. Some were moving but majority weren t. Does this mean that the Ovex has worked/working or should we give him another dose? Our 2 year old also had them but he seems to now be clear and he took the medicine at the same time?

Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare magic!
Ovex is a good medication for thread worm infestation.
The dose is 100 mg single dose.
For complete eradication a second dose is given after 2 weeks.
For effective eradication, all the members of the family should be treated at the same time.
Hope that answers your question.

Pediatrician, Cardiology Dr. Pradeep Kumar Jain's  Response
Hello
Thanks for query
Ovex usually acts within 6-8 hours. As there is very high risk of transmission between family members all family member should take the medicine simultaneously even if there is not any symptom. Repeat the dose after 14 days for better effect. Beside this maintain good hygiene.
-If you have threadworms, it's important to shower in the morning in order to remove eggs and bacteria from the anal area.
-Wash your hands thoroughly after each visit to the bathroom and before each meal.
-Underwear should be changed daily.
-Bedsheets should be changed frequently, especially 7 to 10 days after the treatment.
-Infected children and adults should keep their nails short.
-Infected children should ideally wear cotton gloves when sleeping.
-Clean your home thoroughly, especially the bedrooms, and remove as much dust as possible.
-Do not eat food in your bedroom
I hope this answers your query effectively.
