Sleeping Problem Due To Stress, Drowsy, Weak, Mentally Fatigue. Took Daxid, Lonazep. Having Insomnia. How To Overcome?

I never had any kind of sleep problems in life until 4 years before. Due to relationship stress, work stress etc, I started losing sleep, and more due to the fact that I will be late for office. Slowly, I couldn't sleep and then resorted to a sleep medicine Restyl 0.25. After that, I realised tolearnce level was reached and my doctor changed the medicine to Norep Plus 20 mg.
All this started in 2009 November /December and still continuing, changing from this medicine to that. Then recently I was taking Lonazep 0.5. But I didnot feel well, felt drowsy and very weak, mentally fatigued. when I consulted a psyhchartist who prescribed me Daxid 100mg and Lonazep 0.25. I had taken that for 6 months.

I now want to come out of medicine. I can sleep but have closure problems. I don't have any problem except that I am now suffering from rebound insomnia. Please help and let me know if there are ways to come out of it.
I am now 31 yrs, married for last 1.5 years. And want to conceive a child in near future. All my health trouble is posing a lot of problem in my married life also.

Request you to please suggest a useful way out.

Thanks a lot!

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to HCM

I have read your problem and I can understand it. You developed problems in sleep or insomnia due to relationship stress, work stress. This caused anxiety and depression in you. Then you were prescribed Alprazolam and it resulted in a little improvement. Then Escitalopram was given and finally Sertaline 100 mg and Clonazepam 0.25 mg. You are taking these drugs since last 3-4 years and now want to discontinue this. This is causing rebound insomnia. Sudden stoppage of these medicines cause withdrawal syndrome also called as Serotonin Withdrawal Syndrome. The symptoms like Anxiety, restlessness, insomnia, irritability etc are seen. I will advise you to consult a Psychiatrist for expert opinion and for tapering about medicines. Gradual tapering of this medicine prevent any withdrawal symptoms. Once medicines are stopped you can plan for family.

Thanks
