Should I Be Worried Of Eating Grapefruit After Taking Blood Pressure Medication?

Hi. I take Benazepril (20mg) and Amlodipine (5mg). I took this at 7am this morning. At pm I ate a grapefruit. I just read online that taking blood pressure medication and eating a grapefruit can be dangerous. However, I feel normal. Should I be worried still?

Hi. Welcome to HCM. Grape fruit or its juice is known to interact with many medicines. In most cases, it increases the level of the medicine in your blood. This can increase the risk of side effects or alter the effect that the medicine has. Your blood pressure medications contain amlodipine which belongs to group called calcium channel blockers. Grape fruit is known to interact with amlodipine and it increases its level in the blood. If your usual diet includes grapefruit or grapefruit juice, speak to your GP or pharmacist. Do not stop taking your medication without advice. Grape fruit can worsen some side effects of Benazepril. I hope u got the answer. All the best
