Severe Cramping And Heavy Bleeding With Clots. Is It Normal?

Should I be alarmed by a very large blood clot during my period? I was feeling more cramping than usual tonight & then when I went to the bathroom, sat down, the blood started to pour out & then when I took my tampon out it came out with a clot about the size of a half dollar maybe a even a little bigger. Should I be concerned? My email is YYYY@YYYY if you need to email me. Thanks.

OBGYN 's  Response
Hi, thanks for asking on HCM.

Yes, I will suggest you not to ignore this episode and investigate yourself at the earliest.

It may be due to some complete/incomplete abortion or due to abnormal uterine bleeding. I will suggest you a few investigation - complete blood profile, serum beta HCG, blood glucose, coagulation profile, and Ultrasound of uterus and adnexa.

Till that time you can take hemostatic tablets alongwith analgesics (mefenemic acid + tranexemic acid ) tablets to control bleeding and pain.

Good Luck
Hope this information is helpful and informative to you.
