Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Though 6 weeks period is the minimum time for a fractured vertebra to undergo consolidation, it needs 3-6 months to get back to its pre-injury status to withstand the compression loads in the vertebral column.

So, I personally feel that you have to use some form of external support brace untill 3 months, as there is every chance that the fracture may collapse during your daily regular activities like bending down or travelling by bus.

Also, the fracture healing has to be monitored by having xrays of the injured spine at monthly intervals .

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
