HI, I am 18w 4d pregnant. I have severe pain from the shoulder arm down to my palms. My fingers gets numb and the center of my palm becomes very painful. I can hardly form a fist. My knuckles hurt and my arms is weak. It only happened for the past 2 weeks. First time it happened was at night when I was asleep. Now, i even feel the pain during day time. I cannot hold anything, as my arms will hurt. Kindly advise what is wrong with me. Thanks.

Hi,
Your symptoms suggest a nerve compression and you should see an orthopedic to know the source of this compression and for further management. During pregnancy, it is usual for nerve compression to happen as is seen in the 'carpal tunnel syndrome'. You may need analgesics and physiotherapy. Posture monitoring may help to some extent as is some cervical vertebral support. Please do not worry as such changes are usually temporary and subside with treatment. Hope your query is answered. Wish you good health.
