Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Three days ago my sister woke up with pain on the top of her foot with swelling but no bruising. She's been using ibuprofen, ice, and elevation while at rest but it's still not getting any better. Last night and today, it now feels warm to the touch. Any ideas of this sudden onset without warning? I told her to go to ER to get it checked but she insists on continuing with what she's been doing to see if it gets better that way. She's now wrapping it with an ACE bandage when she's on her feet.
Presence of warmness at foot & occurrence of swelling without any warning is most probably suggesting presence of an infection. She should do following to have relief-
-She should do rest.
-Kep her limb elevated on a pillow.
-She should have some investigations like TDLC,ESR,CRP & A X RAY OF FOOT TO RULE OUT INFECTION OR OTHER PATHOLOGY.
-There are some other reasons for foot selling like congestive heart failure, hupothyroidism, kidney problems .These all should be ruled out by consulting to your physician.
Hope this all will help her.
With best wishes.
