Pain In Knot Which Was Stitched For Removing Wisdom Teeth, Feels Like Cyst. Normal?

Hi there, how are you? I am 3 weeks post op from having my lower impacted wisdom teeth removed. Now that the pain from my dry socket thankfully gone, I've noticed a knot in my cheek where the doc stitched my cheek together to cover the flap of the extraction site. This "knot" is very painful and it almost feels like a cyst. Is this normal and part of the recovery process?

Hi,

With your description I understand that the extraction site is healing, as far the "knot" is concerned, do wait for some more time. Please keep checking for increase in its size, pain or redness. In such conditions, do get back to your dentist.
You could continue with the recommended mouth washes or warm saline gargles twice a day, once in the morning and before going to bed.

Hope this helps.

hi

is the 'knot' painful on touch or is painful otherwise also.? if painful on touch then please don't touch the area again again and allow it to heal... because it has not healed completely yet and normal healing process takes 4-8 weeks... just keep the area clean by doing warm saline rinses, 6-7 times a day...

if it is painful otherwise also, then please visit your dentist for its examination and medication...

hope this will help you...

take care...

THANKS FOR THE QUERY. AFTER THREE WEEKS OF YOUR TOOTH EXTRACTION IF THE REMAINING SUTURE KNOT IS STILL PRESENT, THERE IS ALWAYS CHANCE OF GETTING INFECTION FROM THAT SUTURE KNOT. WHAT YOU FEELS LIKE CYST THAT CANNOT BE DIAGNOSED WITHOUT SEEING IT, BUT A CYST CANNOT FORM SO EARLY. IT IS A PROBABLY SOME GRANULATION TISSUE, MAY BE COVERED BY EPITHELIUM. YOU SHOULD VISIT YOUR DENTIST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE TO REMOVE THE 'KNOT' AS YOU DESCRIBED.

Hi,
As its been 3 weeks to your extraction, get your knot removed early.
I agree with other doctors that cyst can't form in such short duration.
may be when cheek movements occur, it pulls the knot and pain occurs.
U need to remove the knot first then see if pain occurs or not.
thanks
