Need Treatment For Anal Abscess

I have a anal abscess my doctor has given me antibiotics (flucloxacillin) and told me the abscess should dry out. He disn't think it neded to be drained. He also said the antibiotics would start working between 48 to72 hours. It's now 48 hours and there isn't any improvement. The pain is unbearable, not sure to wait for 72 hours or go to the hospital.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from Perianal abscess and the most common cause for it seems to be either infected gland in the area or hair follicle infection or infection in the skin leading to formation of pus under the skin..
Antibiotics is a correct treatment that is advised to you as it is generally a bacterial infection and along with it you also need to take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to reduce pain and inflammation..
You can also apply a numbing gel over it to relieve pain..
Do cool compresses over it..
In cse if there is no improvement even after 72 hours you need to consult your physician back and he can also do an Incision and Drainage and also advise you injectable antibiotics to relieve the infection faster..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
