Jaundice Infection, Yellow Eyes, Skin Itching, Yellow Urine. History Of Diabetes. Diet And OTC Medication?

My dad is diabetic (age 70) and came to visit us in XXX from XXXX. He seems to have jaundice (yellow color of the white eye portion, skin itching, yellow urine etc) Since the medical help is very costly and limited for visitor as they do not have adequate insurance, I am not sure what to do. Can you please recommend me a proper diet and any over the counter medication for him? Thanks so much

Hello. Welcome to hcm
Normally bile is processed by our liver but when some conditions make liver not to do its work, this bile in form of bilirubin comes out in our blood to cause jaundice. Liver is the vital organ for our body. From infections to drugs, many things cause jaundice. As liver also produces glucose for our body, when it is damaged, body has no glucose to function. So all jaundiced patients are admitted in hospital so that cause of jaundice is found and body is helped to repair itself.
There is noover the counter treatment for jaundice. He requires hospitalization.
About diet, he should avoid non vegetarian food, spices, oily or fried foods. Smoking and alcohol should be stopped.
All the best
