Hi doctor, my uncle(aged 61) had an accident and his vertibra was hit. After accident he is having problem in moving his legs also his lower portion shows less sensitivity. MRI shows compression of t8 bone of vertebra(just behind chest). Doctors suggest surgery. Please tell me that isn't there any chance of paralysing of lower limbs after surgery? Thank you sir.

Hi. Now -a-days the spinal surgery is far advanced and better instruments , navigation and well specialized centers with exclusive work going on for spinal injury. There are very less chances of getting paralysis of lower limbs, but you have said your uncle already have the problems of moving legs and less sensitivity too. This may improve if the surgery is done as early as possible as the healing of nervous system takes more time than the other parts of body. he had to undergo nice physiotherapy to supplement surgery to get better results. i hope i have satisfied your query.
