Is Long Term Use Of Methadone Dangerous With Lorazapam?
Hi I have been taking methadone 60mg daily for chronic pain . I have just recently started using a new doc for pain management and says that I am on way to high a dose of the methadone and it could cause sudden death. My EKG so far is normal. Also my doc has given me a script of Lorazapam and the new doc says a u are not allowed to mix the both of them together for the same reason. My new doc wants me to lower the dose of methadone to 40mg and stop Lorazapam, which I do not take a lot anyway. Can u please tell me what u think?
Hi & Welcome. Yes, it may cause harmful interactions if taken together.
Taking Lorazeapm along with Methadone may increase side effects such as dizziness, confusion, excessive sedation (sleepiness), & difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially the elderly, may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination which may result in falls and an increased risk of injuries.
So, as your treating doctor has rightly instructed, you should not take both together but Lorazepam can be taken at bed time if needed otherwise it should be stopped gradually.
Hope this answers your query.
