Is It Safe To Take Tolterodine Tartrate By An Alzheimer Patient?

my wife was prescribed Tolterodine Tartrate 2 mg tablets twice daily today by a Doctor. My wife has Alzheimer s and the prescription is for frequent urination. Reading the medication info fTrom the drugstore I found out that the doctor should be consulted before administering the drug. The doctor is gone for two days (the Alzheimer s doctor). Do you think it is safe to be admintistered to my wife. We are dealing here with the doctor for tolterodine and the doctor for the Alz condition. Thank you.

Hi,
Alzheimer's is a CNS condition and Tolterodine prescribed here is for frequent urination.
Tolterodine is an antispasmodic and helps in reducing the frequency of urine. It does react with a wide number of drugs and cholinesterase inhibitor drug groups are one of them. It is known to aggravate dementia.
You have not mentioned the group of drug treatment, your wife is taking for Alzheimer's. It it belongs to this group, you need to discuss with your doctor before you start the medication.

If you have any further queries, happy to help again.
