Is It Safe To Take 200mg Of Particular Medications Treated For Crohn's And Colitis During Pregnancy?

Hi,
14 years ago I was diagnosed with Crohn's and Colitis.
I recently found out I am pregnant so am currently looking up all the Pregnancy Categories for my medications and seeing whether they are safe to take or not (I see my OBGYN in 2 weeks).
Can someone please clarify something for me....
I am taking 200mg of a particular medication per day, and while reading online I see that there were issues (skeletal malformations) in rats who were given 200mg/kg/day of this.
Does 200mg per day = 200mg/KG/day ?
Thank you,
Olivia

Hi Olivia,
Thanks for your query.
It would have been of great help if you would have stated the name of medicine. But still let me give you little idea about drug use in pregnancy.
There are few medications which are completely safe in pregnancy and few completely unsafe. While few medicines being researched only in animals and data on humans not enough to say safety about use in pregnancy. Your particular medication falls in third category (though you have not mentioned name of drug).
These kind of drugs are given only if benefit to mother exceeds risk to baby. So consult your physician again to find out same.
I hope I have clarified you a bit. Revert back in case of further clarification.
