Is It Possible To Have A Cataract Operation At Old Age?
Hello Doctor
My father, who is 67 years old, is having vision issues in his left eye. Believe it to be a cataract one. Was wondering how feasable is it to go for a cataract operation at "old" age ? Can it be done in a day ? What will be the recovery period ? Will it be possible to have the vision rectified after the operation, if any ?
Hello It seems from the history that your father is having cataract resulting in dimunition of vision. Cataract surgery is a day care surgery and following surgery he needs to take rest for 1 week and need to use eye drops for 6-8 weeks. Cataract surgery is possible at this age in fact it is gone commonly in people aged more than 60 years only. Cataract surgery will rectify vision following surgery, hence he can undergo cataract surgery.
Thank you
