Is It Correct To Take Metrogyl If Imodium Does Not Work For Diarrhoea And What Is Doxy Used For?

Hi I am travelling to Manila in the Philippines and have bought some prescribed drugs to bring with me in case of emergencies as I am there for two months for work.

For diarehea purposes the doctor said to take Imodium and if that doesn't help use the prescribed metrogyl 400mg. Is this correct?

Also prescribed Doxy to use in case normal medications do not help sinus, throat and skin. Is this what it is used for?

If you could please get back to me ASAP that would be amazing! Thank you

Hi,

I have gone through your query.

Imodium (loperamide) is used for Diarrhea. But you have associated fever or infection in intestine, it is contraindicated. Then you should use Metrogyl. Generally diarrhea is due to infection, so Metrogyl will be the first choice and if it not responding, take Imodium.

Doxycycline is an antibiotic and can be used for Sinusitis, Throat infection and skin infection but prefer Amoxycillin or Ciprofloxacin over it.
