Irregular Periods, Heavy Bleeding, Hormonal Imbalance. What Is Cause And Treatment?

One year ago I went to the clinic one year ago because I was having full periods every 10 days after stopping. They put me on birth control pills which helped regulate them. I was on them for 6 months, but quit because they were making me feel too hormonal . Like PMS on steroids. After I stopped taking them, my periods continued to be normal for three months. And now,for the past couple months I have not had a normal period. After 7 days of stopping, I will spot or have another very very light period for 3 to 8 days. After 7 days the cycle begins again. I have been abnormally tired all the time. I feel a bit hormonal (like pms) every 2 weeks. I have dizzy spells. My temperature has been lower than normal ranging between 96.3 and 97.8. My muscles feel stiff and heavy some days. Would this be a normal reaction to having gone off the pill? What should my next step be? Kristina

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, Kristina ,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
I will try to explain you few things as symptoms like subnormal temperature, tiredness , stiffness all are due to loss of blood and anemia. Diagnosis can be confirmed by blood examination for hemoglobin level.
Now 2nd point in this case as you are having these symptoms.
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding,
irregular bleeding ,
Scanty menstruation .
All these symptoms cured with the help of birth control pills .
However you didn't mention your age but seems to be around 25 years .
All above mentioned symptoms & age factors are an indication of .
1 Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease , diagnosis can be confirmed by ultrasound of abdomen with both ovaries.
2 May be fibroid as this is a common disease so get in ultrasound of uterus and consult a gynecologist.
3 Hormonal imbalance may be the another cause . Diagnosis can be confirmed by examination of estrogen, androgen , FSH/LH ratio .
In my opinion pcod may be the reason , so first of all consult a gynecologist and get his opinion and treatment.
Good luck.
