hypo-function. As you mentioned, in many cases family history is positive for thyroid low functioning. Most of the time, the symptoms improve gradually after initiating the medication. Fortunately you have the most benign form of thyroid problem and it is easily managed with substituting the hormone. Thyroid function will be measured every several months in the beginning and yearly after on and in many cases the medication will be decreased and discontinued ultimately after several years. If you live in an area which has less than required amount iodine
