Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband age 76 has been diagnose with stress and panic attacks. He is always tired and now stays in bed approx. 16-18 hours sometimes sleeping and other times just stays there because he says it is comfortable . If he does get up he usually feels very nervous and goes back to bed. However, he sometimes takes ambien when he has trouble falling asleep at night. He is on paroxetine 20mg daily and has lorazepan 1 mg on hand for when he feels attack coming on. He has taken this when he feels very nervous but hesitates using it more often due to his always being tired. When he is up he complains of just not feeling good . His usual personality and health has always been excellent. Although he was diagnosed about 2 years ago, this present condition has only been 2 or 3 weeks. Anything you can tell me is appreciated. Should he see a neurologist or psychologist?
I think, he has depression with anxiety attack. In that case, you need continuous treatment with antidepressant and benzodiazepine. If he is not getting better with paroxetine, then he could try some another antidepressant like venlafaxine or mirtazapine. Better to consult your psychiatrist for further treatment. In case, you need further help, you can ask.
Thanks
