Hi Doctor, I had splenectomy when I was 10yrs of age. Everything has been fine after that until year 2009.I conceived in April 2009 and during 25th week of my pregnancy I developed a probllem called fetal ascites. The fetal autopsy report said that the fetus had meconium peritonitis. All other tests were normal. Tests like fish and torch were also done. Cletus blood was also taken and all the tests confirmed that nothing was wrong internally. Nothing could be concluded and I was told that in can happen one in a million times. I was advices to terminate the pregnancy and initially my gynac was trying for a normal one but we had to wait for a few days as normal delivery was taking time, during this wait my blood count shot up to27000. And my gynac operated me immediately. After that my gynac advices me to go for a vaccination called pneumococal before my second pregnancy. Doctor I want to know should I take that vaccination as I was a splenectomy patient in past and if I take it how much should I wait after taking the vaccination before I plan to conceive.
