Heavy Bleeding After Taking Depo Shot. Miscarriage Or Pregnancy?

I had the depo shot in March I had intercourse 4-6 days ago now I'm passing large chunks of tissue and bleeding bad. Could it be a miscarriage or just from the shot? I have had a child on the pill and I had the same symptoms miscarriage like symptoms. Could I be pregnant or is this just normal side effects of the shot? Please help. Don't want to scare my boyfriend or tell him false information.

Hi dear user, thanks for asking to us.

Failure rate of depo provera is very less i.e. 0.1%- 0.4%. So, chances of pregnancy are very less and your bleeding is most probably due to side effect of depo shot. Still, to be more cautious, you should go for an ultrasound scan of uterus to rule out any complete/incomplete abortion. If the scan comes out to be normal, then i will advise you to take tablets of tranexemic acid 500 mg thrice daily for 3 days.

Hope this helps.
