My daughter 17 yr is suffering from multiple cysts in both overies. Irregular periods and heavy non stop bleeding and pain are main concern. Now on oral contraceptive for last two days. Bleeding inceased as well as pain. Now Tab Pause 500 mg is prescribed. Does it require any other action or the treatment will continue?

Hi,

I understand your concern. Please do not worry as she will be better.

From your question it seems that your daughter is having polycystic ovarian disorder. This is a condition with multiple cysts in the ovaries that occur du to hormonal imbalance and then they themself cause further hormonal disturbances. This leads to trapping of eggs in the ovary and irregular periods.

This is a common condition nowadays and the exact cause for this is not known. However the treatment depends upon which hormone is primarily defective.

Since your daughter is now in the heavy bleeding phase even after two days of oral contraceptive pills, give pause twice or thrice daily. This usually controls bleeding and pain. If the bleeding still continues, she may need to be given pause injections and if she still bleeds hormonal injections may be needed to stop bleeding. Eventually the bleeding does stop.

However I strongly recommend that you have her PCOD profile [hormone blood test] done on day 2 or 3 of the periods to know the exact defect and further treatment must be given accordingly.

If she came to my clinic, I would also advise a coagulation profile and hemoglobin test, as sometimes minor coagulation defects cause heavy bleeding and bleeding leads to decrease in blood hemoglobin and anemia. So these may also need correction.

I hope I was able to help you. Please feel free to ask any more questions and I would be happy to help.

Thank you for using HCM and have a good day.
