Have A Fracture In The Metacarpals Shaft Which Is Very Painful. X-ray Has Been Taken. What To Do?
Hello Doctor, I fractured my 4th metacarpals shaft a little over 4 weeks ago. I went to the hand clinic a few days ago and they said it is healing properly. What bothers me is that is has been 4 weeks and i still have very limited movement in my wrist and it hurts when I move it. I can only bend my wrist about 30 degrees inward and 20 degrees outward as to an opposed at least 90 degrees on my other hand. Is this normal? Or is there something wrong with my wrist? They took X-rays of it and everything seems to be in place on them. I'm just concerned with the very limited range of motion in my wrist. All of my fingers are back to normal and do not hurt.
Hi ! It is already 4 weeks past and so no aggressive treatment may be required now. But possibly you may require active physiotherapy to train your finger and wrist back into their full range of motion, which may take some time. You may be required to take some anti inflammatory drugs also for a while. In case it does not work, and the problem of movement increases, then you may have to get reviewed by your orthopedician again to rule out any other pathology involving bones in your wrist joint. Good luck.
