Frequent Urination. Burning On The Penis. Cause?

I am urinating frequently, having to go every 5-10 minutes. I have also had to wake up many times during the night in order to go, and usually when I do urinate it is very little. I have always had urination problems, and I usually go at least twice every two hours, but only a week ago, I started going every 5-10 minutes abruptly. I had burning and an uncomfortable sensation at the tip of my penis at first, but now it is gone. What could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

From your current complaints it does appear that you could be suffering from a urinary tract infection (UTI). The symptoms of which are the following:
-Frequent urination
-Increased urge to urination
-Burning sensation while urinating
-Fever
-Chills
-Exhaustion/lethargy
-Lower abdominal pain
-Flank or lower back pain

Please visit a doctor and go about a urine analysis which will help in directing us towards a possible UTI. Also, follow this up with a urine culture examination as this will help in confirming the infection and also provide information on the most suitable antibiotic that can be used.

Treatment includes antibiotic therapy, pain management medication (if pain is present) and a potassium chloride based solution which will help in quick relief of your symptoms.

In the meantime, please consume plenty of water and cranberry juice which has also shown to have added benefits.

Due to a history of frequent urination even previously, you will have to discuss the following with your doctor:
-Level of hygiene
-Family history of diabetes
-Get your glycemic profile

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
