Fast Heart Beat Rate. Prescribed Beta Blocker. Gaining Weight. Serious?
Im 46,5 ft and 130lbs. I have always had a fast heart rate. Drs never said to do anything until about 6 months ago. My heart runs about 110 per min resting. I had a heart monitor on which no irregular heartbeat. A sonogram of heart and flaps and everything looked good. Bloodpressure is average. They still put me on 2.5 Bystolic a beta blocker. I hate it,I am gaing weight and have no energy. My heart is now 75 beats per min. Is it dangerous to have a fast heartbeat and not take any kinds of medicine
Respected Ma'm / Sir Thanks for writing to us. If you essentially have normal rhythm with no symptoms arising from it and you do not have a structural heart disease on cardiac sonogram, then you need only to know why this heart rate is high and drug therapy is not mandatory at all. The causes in such a scenario include thyroid hormone problems, anxiety, stress, anti-cold/asthma medications, tea/coffee intake, certain kind of spices etc. You may consult an electrophysiologist/ cardiologist for a second opinion as beta-blockers are causing to side-effects worse than the original problem. sincerely sukhvinder singh
