Eye Exam Shows Microscopic Cholesterol On Eyeballs. Normal Cholesterol Levels. Any Ideas?
Hello, I just went for a yearly eye exam and my optometrist said I have microscopic cholesterol deposits on my eyeballs. She recommended I have my cholesterol checked. I just had it checked in January and it was very good; my hdls are super! I do not smoke, am not overweight and have low blood pressure. What is going on here?
HI Thank for asking HCM In my opinion you better consult to some good Ophthalmologist and not to the Optometrist it is non of its job, have expert opinion do not take any chance, take care of your eyes Have nice day.
Hello, The condition what you are referring is may be arcus or ring in the cornea. It is characterized by ring in the periphery of the cornea and this condition may be associated with increased cholesterol levels in about 50 % of the cases. However this condition is normal in people aged more than 50 years and is called as arcus senilis. If the same condition is present below 50 years of age then it is called as arcus juvenilis and this condition requires evaluation to rule out increased cholesterol levels. Thank you
