Experiencing Pain Above The Umbilicus Due To Enlarged Liver
My six year old daughter has experienced intermittent abd pain above her umbilicus with occasional vomiting for 5 weeks. She has strep right now and had KUB and cxr this week to see why her WBC's were 14 after a week since her bicillin injection. The KUB results came in today and we were told she has an enlarged liver and it was strongly suggested that we see her routine Pediatrician to set up US and further testing. What could cause the abd pain, vomiting for this long and an enlarged liver?
It is very difficult to give you an exact diagnosis. Past viral infection of the liver, some other form of inflammation, bile duct sluggishness, fatty liver change, etc. are some of the causes of an enlarged liver. The commonest cause is a viral infection. You should be going to the Pedia dr. as early as possible. He will advise blood tests to see liver enzymes and functions in addition to the white cell count, which he is sure to repeat. Once these are done, do revert with your follow-up.
