Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi. I used to use methamphetamine and I stopped using about 8 months ago. But ever since then my skin has never been the same. I still sometimes feel like the effects are still there, they come & go. Why does this happen and will it eventually go away?
I understand your concern. Meth use, even when for a short time, can cause lasting effects on the skin. Methamphetamine is a stimulant, and as such it raises the body temperature, making the skin more oily and sweaty, resulting in acne. Since meth causes the blood vessels to narrow, blood circulation to the skin is also decreased, leading to poorly nourished sking Long term meth use also leads to poor hygiene which further worsens the skin condition. Improving skin care and hygiene, eating healthier food and increasing the water intake and, above all, quitting meth will resolve your skin condition.
Wishing you all the best
