How To Determine The Difference Between Amphetamine And Methamphetamine On Drug Test?

I viewed a reponnse from an M.T. on your site regarding the differentiation of amphetamines and methamphetamine on a urine drug test. In it he states that as far as a drug test is concerned methamphetamine and amphetamine are the same. This makes it sound as though amphetamine and methamphetamine cannot be differentiated on gc/ms confirmation testing. It is possible to determine the difference between amphetamine and methamphetamine on this type of test,,isn t that correct? Thanks

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I doubt they can be reliably differentiated because they inter convert in the body due to metabolism. So, both would be there if either was there.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman
