Did lipid profile, got high triglyceride level. Had flu, was on gatorade, ginger ale. Related?

My 12 year old son just got his lipid profile back and his triglyeride level came back at 223. All his other bloodwork
was perfect, cholesterol level was great, his height and weight are perfect, blood pressure was fine. He had just got over having the flu and drinking only Gatorade and Ginger Ale for a week before taking the blood test. Could this be the cause of the high results

Dear Ms Maureen
thanks for your query
first of all do not worry. a level of 223 of triglycerides is high but not very high. most of the time it requires only a bit of modification in life style. a diet like this may cause high triglycerides (almost exclusively carbohydrates) but one week may be a short period for such alterations. give him unsaturated fat as a source of energy rather than only carbohydrates. make him exercise daily, keep weight optimal and repeat after 3 months.
all the best
