Developed Hiatus Hernia After An Accident. Severe Chest Pain, Difficulty In Breathing. Need Urgent Attention?
I was involved in a very serious motor vehicle accident two weeks ago, and trapped in the car hanging on the safety belt for 1 and a half hours. I developed an hiatial hernia, but for the last five days have experienced extreme chest pain on the bottom right hand side of my sternum. I find it difficult to breathe, couch and even my right arm is starting to ache. I have made an appointment with a specialist on Monday, but am really not coping. Please assist in case I need urgent attention. Thank you Regards Colette RSA
A hiatus hernia has to be treated by surgical procedure.
It has to be repaired/ reduced.
Pain in the chest after trauma suggests an injury to soft tissue, muscles, pleura, bone, etc.
Difficulty in breathing further suggests injury to the chest wall.
You need to consult your doctor for clinical examination, relevant investigations and thus management.
A X-ray chest and/or CT scan may be required.
Thanks and take care
