Delayed Periods, But Have Menstrual Symptoms, Stressed. What To Do ?

Hi,
I'm 40 years old. Married. Been on the contraceptive pill, Estelle for last 10 years. Currently going through quite a stressful period - separating from my husband, lost weight and struggle to sleep. I have not skipped any of my tablets and always have a normal period with the pill. Was meant to start my menstruation week on Monday 27 May but still nothing. I have all the cramps and "menstruating symptoms" of back pain, warm / tenderness but no bleeding. This has never happened before. I did a pregnancy test at home last night and 1st thing this morning and it came back "negative". Not sure what am I meant to do? Can my stress has caused me to skip the period?

Hi,
Thanks for the query.

Yes, more possibly your stress and weight loss are affecting the hormonal levels and leading to the irregularity in the periods.
Anyhow as you used the pills according to the schedule the chance of pregnancy is less.
You may continue the pills as per your regular schedule irrespective of menstrual flow.
But as you are using the pills since longer period better to undergo general checkups in between.
