Hi,

The copper IUD doesn't cause weight gain, as it is  hormone-free. It is reported in people on hormonal IUD. The noted effects of copper T will be break through bleeding, more cramping, back pain etc. Weight gain in your case might be due to PCOD, Thyroid disorders, anemia etc. I advise you to do:
- TFT and complete hemogram to rule out the above conditions
- Have diet control
- Do regular exercises

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Yogapriya Vasudevan, General & Family Physician
