Could I Have Food Rich In Vitamin A For For Macular Degeneration?

I have just been diagnosed with macular degeneration. Preservision was suggested and contains 14,320 IU of Vitamin A. I am worried about the toxic effect of that much Vitamin A. Should I be? I will be 86 next month, in good health.
Would foods high in Vitamin A be just as good?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello
It seems from the history that you have been diagnosed with age related macular degeneration.
The treatment for macular degeneration in the initial stages is by supplementation with antioxidant and vital nutrients. The supplements required are antioxidants like vitamin C vitamin E, zinc oxide, copper. The supplements are required in definite dosage and they are available in pharmacy for treatment.
You also require regular follow up with eye doctor to look for complications and treatment accordingly.

Hence I advice you to consult ophthalmologist for prescription of appropriate tablets.

Thank you
