Dear friend, welcome to HCM.

It is harmless to take rekool (rabeprazole) for long, but should be done under medical supervision.

What did you mean by a "wond in chest"?
Was it an ulcer or gastritis etc.?

It is better to consult your GI specialist again and get evaluated to see if you need a repeat check scopy to see resolution of ulcer/ gastritis.

Heaviness in stomach may be because of the hernia and may benefit by adding a prokinetic like ganaton or domperidone.
please consult your GI specialist.

I think I satisfied your query well.
Please keep me posted on your progress.
Take care and good luck !

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Mayank Bhargava's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
As you are suffering from gastric problems, what was your complete endoscopy report?
Acidity problem may be in form of gastritis and in severe form, may cause peptic ulcer disease with carcinomatous changes.
Have you undergone biopsy of gastric mucosa?
You should consult with physician/ gastro-physician and should go for following investigations: complete blood count, thyroid profile, serum electrolytes, blood sugar, liver function test, renal function test and ultrasound imaging.
Most of the cases of acidity is due to H. Pylori infection. This bacteria may persist in gastric mucosa with out any harmful effects as it creates an alkaline environment around itself.
H. pylori infection may be diagnosed by biopsy, urease breath test.
You should avoid tomatoes, citrus fruits, onion, garlic, tea, coffee, chocolates, oily and spicy foods.
You should take soft diet (khichdi and daliya) with curd.
Yes...you can take Rekool for prolonged period without any side effects.
In books, 5 years use has been defined.
If you are a smoker then you should stop smoking as it increases acid production in stomach.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
