Child. Small Hard Spot Above The Eyebrow, Sore To Touch. History Of Being Hit By Golf Stick Followed By Big Knot And Mild Black Eye. Time To Heal?
My child is 6 yrs old and about a month ago walked behind her 10 yr old sister while playing golf and was hit above the eye (near nose above eyebrow) with a driver. She of course got a big knot and a mild black eye the following day. She has had no serious side effects other than a small hard knot in that spot that hasn't gone away. She says its still sore when touched. How long do the knots stay and should I be worried?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Jay Patel's Response
Hi,
Black eye is sign of clotting of blood which is normal response to blunt injury, it will take about 3-4 weeks to get back to normal.
Now about the seriousness of the issue, it depends how hard the hit was and the energy transferred to the underlying bone. Their are chances he might had a hair line fracture and will not need any further treatment accept a painkiller. I would still like you to have it checked by near by physician they may need x-ray of face in order to see for any major underlying damage.
Thanks. Hope it helps. Dr.JAY PATEL.
