Can old age change bowel frequency ?

Hi I am a 71 year old male and have recently experienced a change of bowl habits. I used to have a bowel movement every day, and in the last few months its changed to once every other day. I am vegetarian and eat a lot of fiber and roughage and nothing in my diet has changed. Does your metabolism slow down as you age? Other than frequency, the stool itself seems normal.

Welcome to see a doctor as change in bowel movements for more than 3 weeks in your age could signify inflammatory bowel disease or colon cancer.take care.
