Can Having Multiple X Rays With Panaramic X Ray Safe?

My daughter is in dental hygiene program right now. During her radiology class they xray each other. She has had several xrays and now a panaramic xray tomorrow. Is she safe? I only like xrays being done once every 6 months but once a month bothers me.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

The dental X ray unit is a much smaller version of the one used for general purposes. A panoramic X ray gives a dose of 0.01mSv which is about one tenth of the chest X ray dose. The natural background radiation on the surface of earth is around 3.2 mSv/year. The average 7 hour airline flight radiation exposure is about 0.02 mSv. Considering these as the standard, the panoramic view will give a negligible amount of radiation. Please do not worry.
