Can A Change In Medication From Exalgo To Fentanyl Cause Severe Vomiting?

I stopped exalgo 48mg and started fentanyl 100mcg/hr patch yesterday. Tonight I have been uncontrollably vomiting. I can't stop throwing up. I can't keep anything down, and I'm throwing up over and over. Do you think it's the fentanyl patch? Or caused by switching from the exalgo so fast? I am miserable with the vomiting. Help! Thank you for your time.

Hi,

I have gone through your query.
Exalgo has Hydromorphone, a derivative of morphine. Since you stopped it suddenly and switched over to Fentany patch, It caused you withdrawal symptom as vomiting. Using exalgo over 40 mg of dose cause painful and intense withdrawal lasting up to two weeks including vomiting, muscle pain, body cramps, diarrhea.
It should be stopped in a tapering dose.
Answers to your query:
It is not fentanyl patch that caused you intense vomiting.
It is caused by stopping Exalgo and it is always fast for dose above 40 mg.

You consult your doctor for withdrawal, he may switch you over Methadone for time being.
