Can Misoprostol Cause Pain And Cramps During Pregnancy?

Hi Doctor,
My wife has 4 weeks of pregnancy. Her age is 23. We already have one baby (4 months old). She had one Mifepristone 200 mg yesterday night and had cramps and pain for 2 hrs. Then she became stable. Will she have same pain if she takes 400 mcg of Misoprostol after 24 hrs of having mifepristone?

I understand your concern and I will do my best to answer your question.

Yes. Most women do experience cramps and bleeding after either mifepristone alone or mifepristone and Misoprostol. The cramping and pain is usually mild or moderate, similar to period cramps and stops after the tissue has passed. Tylenol, rest and plenty of fluids can help. Very rarely, severe cramps are a sign of a serious side effect warranting evaluation in the emergency room.

Good luck
