Can Adderall Be Used In Treating Other Mantal Disorders Besides ADHD And ADD?

Can Adderall be used in treating other mantal disorders besides ADHD and ADD? I want to know if a patient suffering from another disorder such as depression or bulimia can be prescribed Adderall. I realize the doctor might be hesitant to prescripe it, however, if the patient refuses to take any other medication due to potential weight gain, will the doctor consider the prescription of Adderall?

Hi,

I know of no guidelines in UK/USA/Australia&Newzealand, which allows prescription of stimulants for Depression or Bulimia for their anorectic/weight loss effect. Hence there is no way any doctor can prescribe you Adderal in these regions. In other parts of the world as well, it would NOT be considered to prescribe Adderal for weight loss.

Beleive me, the weight gain from other medication can be controlled in many other ways and a discussion first with a lifestyle team/dietitian in your area should be your first port of call.If not please discuss this with the treating psychiatrist/GP so that they can find some other ways to help, including medication.
